The Roadways story.
our story
2014
One family. One child. One yes.
Shortly after Sheila Erickson retired from the Saskatoon Public School Division, a family asked if she would tutor their son, a Grade 3 student who still couldn’t read.
She said yes. That moment became the beginning of Roadways.
Alongside Sheila, Stephen Erickson played a foundational role from day one, building classrooms, maintaining spaces, and managing many of the day-to-day operational needs that allow children and educators to learn in a supportive environment.
2019
Built from the ground up — literally.
The need was enormous. The results were undeniable.
What began in Sheila's basement grew quickly. By 2019, Roadways had expanded to 20 students and 7 teachers and moved into its first dedicated building.
2026
Formally recognized.
In 2026, the Government of Saskatchewan approved Roadways Literacy Academy as a Saskatchewan Alternative School, formally recognizing the rigour, professionalism, and outcomes that had defined the program from the start.
